Varies for each bank. Check www.barclays.co.uk / www.lloydstsb.com / www.abbey.com / www.hsbc.co.uk / www.natwest.co.uk
Check their particular requirements too as regards identification etc. But their interest rates and requirements for the opening of any account will vary dramatically.

Minimum deposit required varies with bank, but most offer Variable rather than Fixed rates.
