My ex husband is behind almost $12,000 in child support for a 4 year old and a 3 year old. I live in Ohio. My case worker said that they are going to suspend his drivers licence for the 2nd time this year. Is there anything I can do?

His amount was set by the judge and the CSEA. It's the lowest they will go. In fact they actually added to the amount because he never showed up for any of the state hearings. When he does have a job the payment get taken out and I recieve his income tax which is usaully 300 if that because he doesn't work anywhere long enough.

Are the payments too high for his income level? A dad without a license is going to have an even HARDER time paying CS, don't you think? Punishing him isn't going to help your kids, is it?
The best thing you can do for your kids is to get him on a reasonable payback schedule and have CS re-determined for an amount suitable for what he is paid from his job-working with him only helps your kids, who should be your first priority. I know firsthand that oftentimes CS is used by ex wives to "punish" their exes rather than to help their kids, and it is so sad, really. Make sure your motives are in the right place, and make sure the amount ordered is reasonable-do YOUR part to make this a logical transaction that he can reasonably cooperate with-I only say this because many good fathers really are absolutely raped by CS guidelines (which are beginning to change in recognition of this fact across America)
Good luck-my husband's ex wife owes several thousand as well and because she is a woman the courts slap her hand and let her be on her way. Sometimes it's just not fair, but as long as you are in the right and your motives are in the right place, I am sure you will get what your kids deserve

I know I'm gonna get thumbs-downed for this, but if he's not involved in the kids' lives, he shouldn't have to pay. Why? It's a simple matter of women's choice. If a woman gets pregnant, she makes all the choices - whether to have the baby or not, put it up for adoption, raise it herself, etc. The man has NO SAY in any of those scenarios - i.e. he may want to be a father and she chooses to have an abortion. Therefore, I believe that a woman should be responsible for her own choices - get a job and support your kids, not rely on a man who maybe never wanted that responsibility in the first place.

I wish you luck. My wife's ex owes over $35,000. He'll never pay a dime. And, the state of Michigan won't do a darn thing. May I suggest you just hope he gets hit by a truck. That way, the kids will receive social security. I doubt Ohio will really ensure he'll EVER pay. Good luck.

hmmm, he will probably still drive, lol! hmmm... you should get his tax return, as well... the whole thing! good luck...

ya, it sucks... Ohio lets men slide, basically... in my opinion... one of my daughter's "sperm donors" is behind 8,000 and some... he goes out buys beer and whatever else he feels like it... and does not work, claims to have a disibility... hmph! pffft... he is a loser... !

all you can hope for is that he gets caught driving, then he will go to jail... hmmm... perhaps pop out a tail light of his so he gets pulled over, lolol!!! =)

I agree w/ what a lady said about Pennsylvania up there, they don't mess around... but, they were too hard on my husband... his ex is basically a loser, but, that's another story... anyway, ya, Ohio lets people get away w/ too much...

if it didn't work suspending it the first time it won't work now
your case worker is lazy
go to your local child support unit
every state has one
they will go after him
garnishee his pay
take his tax return
even lock his lowlife a** up
i would also see what recourse you have against your case worker
i don't know what state your in but in pa they'd have his a** on a silver platter
they don't play out here

you might as well forget it hell i live in wv and its easy to avoid child support work under the table that way they cant find him to deduct and then there isnt any income tax so he just has to drive without his liscence but hey its a small price to pay for not having to pay 12 grand wouldnt you think and sorry to hear about your plight i hate people like that i havent had any arrears in like years and only then from a on the job injury but hope you well

What comes around goes around. Are the payments to high for him? Maybe you can decrease the payments. He might be overwhelmed. Sometimes if a situation looks to big for a man they just do not even act like the problem exists. He is in denile.

Other than kick yourself for having kids with someone so irresponsible? Nah. And I wouldn't be holding your breath for the child support, if he can't drive, how does he get to work? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Why aren't they garnishing wages?
