I feel like that excercise guru who would scream out "Stop the insanity!"

It is EVERYWHERE you go - your mailbox full of items you should buy (cars, clothes, etc) and then your email box is also full of offers for gifts. If you go to any store, more stuff being markteted to us. It's even on TV, radio, etc.

Isn't it something that so few step back and see how bad this is for us, especially when the economy is weak and families are struggling?

Yes, gifts are nice - to give and receive - however, consumers need to learn to draw the line and step back a little this time of year. It's not just "things" that make us happy, and somehow our culture tries to make it that way to profit business.

Each year I feel like this gets worse and worse. It's like that Charlie Brown Christmas Special - people forget the message - it isn't about gifts and buying crap - it's really about the birth of Jesus Christ. Not going bankrupt!

The few people who would appreciate it are getting a Chrismas card from me this year showing an anxious Meerkat .peering out from a burrow.
I've added the caption: "Is Christmas over yet? Is it safe to come out?"

The absolute icing on the cake as far as advertising and marketing is concerned is, of course, that after all the hype and build-up to Christmas, they won't let us have it in peace.
On Christmas day they start pushing us to book our summer holidays, and rush out to the sales to buy furniture.

Consumer fodder that's all the companies think we are: they love our money, not us.
