Not if you are both strong, powerful individuals who respect each other. And both have the option to have a career outside the home if they desire. Then, marriage is awesome! If a marriage is good, then it actually gives you the power to be free.

Originally yes, not so much now. The Ancient Romans didn't give their wives wedding rings they had iron , silver or gold collars put around their wives necks, indicating their status as married women. The idea of marrying for love didn't become popular until the 17 th century, and even today many marriages are arranged by the families of the people getting married

Only if one or both of the pair allow it to be so. My partner and I have been together for a very long time -- 27 years -- and we look at our marriage as a partnership. she brings in the money and I keep the house. Very Traditional, so to speak, but we chose it after my health took a dive and I became unable to hold a job. Until then we were a two income household and we split the chores.
Marriage is like any other form of partnership or business : it can become very one-sided very quickly if both partners don't communicate or one doesn't continually aact for one's rights. it can be a form of slavery. Look at abusive households; but that doesn't happen in ours.
Good luck with your research, Dearest.

Only if you let it become so...otherwise, it should be a journey through life with a partner who understands you as much as you understand them.

marriage is the unity between two souls. you are a slave to her. she is a slave to you. if you think about it, we are all slaves to something. we pay taxes to higher power without the thought of repayment, just punishment. the perfect marriage is one without punsihment. then will you truly be united. not slaves.
