I was married for 4 years and having been with my current bf for 1 year both of which were unprotected sex. I'd be happy with kids but with 5 years and nothing happening on its own I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever happen at all. can you get pregnant without having normal cycles? Doctors haven't been able to explain the lack of with normal visits, but I'm not keen on extensive testing? Is that what I'm looking at? Has any one else been in a similar situation and how did you go about the issue?

You need to sit down and think about what you really want. If you truley want children then you need to probably call on a fertility specialist to run some tests, that's the only way you're going to find out why possibly you're not having regular cycles. If you just keep on the way you are chances are you could be waiting a very long time.

You're going to have to get testing. You could have something like polycystic ovarian syndrome, or endometriosis or something like that. My friend's period just came whenever it wanted...she goes for months without getting one, and it turned out she has PCOS.
I had to get testing for endometriosis...when all was said and done, my insurance paid for most of it and I only had to pay about $200. This was before I had insurance with the Navy, so that's not bad.
The testing wasn't really bad either, just annoying.

I've not been in that position, but I had a good friend who was. She wasn't ovulating at all- but after extensive testing and drugs she was able to conceive. If you wait for it to solve itself, you're probably going to be waiting a very long time.
