an ultra sound tells the sex of the baby if your far emough along. also it can show defects. with an ultra sound the doctor and you should be able to see the whole baby. arems legs fingers and even the out line of the babys face.
of course you won't be able to see that until you are far enough along for those things to develope.
also an ultra sound helps the doctors know ecactly how far along you are, and keep track to make sure that the baby is growing and forming at the rate that it should be.
ultrasounds are awesome. not only are they medicaly benificial they really make you feel more relaxed to see the baby and know everything is thier.

I believe at 12 weeks they can pick up the heartbeat with the doppler thing. I am pretty sure that is when I heard this baby. As far as gender I think 11 weeks is way to early to tell with ultrasound. Typically about 18-22 weeks you can see on ultrasound the gender. Good luck.

Yes they mesure all the major organs kidneys, heart, bladder, liver and all the bones to ensure everything is growing normally and at the same rate. They measure the umbilical cord and blood flow between the placenta and the baby to ensure that everything is flowing between you and baby normally. It's pretty cool, if you're lucky you will have a nice ultrasound tech who will tell you what they are doing. Good luck!

An ultrasound can tell the doctor many things. Go to the following website and it lists everything that the doctor sees.

It can detect defects, like right now my baby's kidneys aren't draining properly and they're able to see that on ultrasound. They can also see things like cysts on brains, which is what my cousin's friend just found out about her baby.

it can see chromosomal and genetic problems... like downs syndrome, Edward's syndrome, well the list goes on really... they can tell by measurements and proportions if your baby might be a dwarf.. hmm lets see.. they can see if your baby will have spina bifida, and see any problems with the spine development, they can see brain development problems.. they can detect heart problems before the baby is born...they can make sure all your baby's fingers and toes are there... the question is what can't they see with ultra sound haha
