On the order of 100 mph, depending on orientation.

It depends on how aerodynamic (fat) they are. The guy with the world record broke the sound barrier. He was either in the stratosphere or the mesosphere -- wherever he was, he was in the blackness of space when he jumped from a hot air balloon.

UPDATE: Quoting the first source -- "The Altitude record was set again in 1960 when Captain Joe Kittinger parachute jumped from a balloon that was at a height of 102,000 feet. The balloon broke the altitude record and Captain Kittinger, the high altitude parachute jump record. He broke the sound barrier with his body!"

Well if you jump out of a plane, and are falling (freefall) you reach terminal velosity and thats apporx 240kms/hr.( i only do metric im an aussie)
Base jumping does not allow time to reach terminal velosity.
Just open a chute..!land.

Have trouble believing the hot air baloon stories....cant go faster than terminal velosity, i think I would have found out......any other skydivers out there to answer??? or agree with me! lol feel free to disagree.

Well lets say you are being dropped from a building. You will reach a speed of about 120 miles before the effects of drag equal to that of the gravity.

About 125 mph. Its not the fall. its the sudden stop at the bottom that gets you. About 90-100 G's, squish, splat, crunch!

About 120mph in normal air (<10,000ft). The guy who jumped from the stratospheric balloon allegedly got up to nearly 200mph at one point.
