Ok, i went to the dr. last wednesday. The doc had to do an u/s to hear baby's heartbeat (i have lots of scar tissue from previous surgeries that the doplar won't read through). Anywhos, baby is fine, kickin around like a black belt. The problem however was that she saw liquid on my cervix, which prompted the doc to take a peek at my cervix. She told me that my cervix is kind of opening, enough she can fit her whole index finger through. I have another appt on friday for her to check to see if we need to stitch it up. I was just wondering if there are any other women who went through or are going through the same thing, and could offer words of advice or how things might happen. Thanks a bunch, just getting all worried about it, don't want baby to fall out!!

My friend got a cerclage (that's the stitch in the cervix) at about 14 weeks. She's 21 weeks now and dilated to 3, but with the stitch you wont go past a 3. She was stiched up with her last pregnancy too and got to 28 weeks but then her water broke so she delivered the same day. I also know people who have gone to 36 weeks with the stitch, which is when the doctor will then cut the stitch out.

It's a good thing this was discovered now, since they way it usually happens is the woman miscarries due to an incompetent cervix the first time, but then the next time the doctor does a cerclage knowing about the problem. You will be able to fix it right away now. They may put you on bed rest too.

I have seen similar situations on Birth Day (on Discovery Health) where the cervix dilates early and they usually put in a stitch to try to prevent it from opening any more. It seems to be a good idea from what I have seen, but I am sure they wouldn't show the bad parts on tv. I would first go with the strict bedrest and make sure they pay close attention to your cervix, and get a stitch if absolutely needed. Good luck. :)

I had to have a cervical cercalge( not sure of the spelling on that )but my last pregnancy I had to get that done at 13 or 14 weeks .My cervix was opened and basically they had to stitch it shut so that I would not have a miscarriage .I could not have sex for the rest of the pregnancy or pick up things over 5 pounds . It was all worth it my beautiful Victoria is now 14 months old .

Not an OB/GYN but wife is studying to be an Fertility Dr. and she says it happens. No worries. They'll just stitch it up like you mentioned. Curious what the liquid is though. Typically there is a mucous plug that helps protect the baby which usually comes out just prior to birth. I would also guess that doc will rule out anymore extracurricular activity as well.

One of my friends has really bad diabetes and her cervix wouldn't close- So for both of her children she had to get her cervix stitched closed! But she has 2 healthy children now! Dont worry about this its totally normal! Congrats

The baby wont fall out. If he has to do a cerclage, then so be it. He will most likely do this and put you on bedrest. I have heard many women having cerclage's and it took them all to full term. Good Luck.
