You can look outside of Orlando to its many surrounding suburbs. Altamonte Springs, Apopka, Oviedo, Ocoee (very nice), Kissimmee, Clermont (although the drive in to Orlando for a job might be much).

If you are doing well with acting, I would think you would want to stay in the NYC or Hollywood area. Coastal NC had or has some action.. but likely nothing like NYC or Hollywood. If you don't speak Spanish or like the culture, Miami might not be the place for you. Orlando isn't as nice as everyone thinks. It's rated #6 on Forbes list of Most Dangerous Cities in the US based on violent crime. If I'm not mistaken, Tampa has the Home Shoppers thing going. Florida's unemployment rate is currently higher than the national average.. even in the cities. And being in a generally sporatic field like acting, that makes unemployment an even scarier prospect in Florida... uh.. not to be fresh.. but are you a good waitress? You would be more aware of the field than most of us.

Orlando is a great city. Its similar to Miami but a little more family-friendly. Here are some good areas in Orlando:

- Baldwin Park

- East Downtown Orlando (High-Rise Condos & Historic Homes)
- Lake Nona (Upscale Golf Community)
- Winter Park (Upscale & Historic)
- Waterford Lakes/Avalon Park
- Oviedo/Winter Springs (North of UCF)
- Altamonte Springs/Longwood (North Orlando)
- Dr. Phillips/West Sand Lake Road
- Millenia Area (Mall at Millenia)
- Hunters Creek (South Orlando)

A good source for local info is the sentinel:

Hi, well you will want to stay by: Waterford lakes, Conway, downtown, and parts of Chickasaw.

You will see we have alot of condos, but I have seen tons of apartments in the Conway area. This area is by far the safest and best.

Stay away from: Pine Hills(or crime hills), Paramore, the other parts of Chickasaw(south east), parts of downtown, parts of metro west area.

Welcome to Orlando the city beautiful!

I like the Lake Mary, Longwood, Atlamonte Springs areas. There is a good church called Northland in Longwood if you are looking for a church in Orlando.

Look for an apartment near where you will work. Traffic and commuting can be bad here (on a par with Miami)
