I recently contacted the freemasons that were local to me and they invited to meet me. they showed me around their temple and we spoke for a bit. I was just about to ask to join when my wife told me she wants me to have nothing to do with them. Her argument was that i am 22 years old, way to young at the moment for the freemasons, and once you join you can't leave. I told her they help out their members and she aid that if they help, and in return she said what if they ask me to do soemthing immoral. What do you guys think. Good arguments on her side???

Suggest you contact the Masonic Lodge and have them meet with you and your wife. There are many young men who are members of the Masonic and other fine Fraternal Organizations. There is nothing immoral or Satanic in the Masonic Ritual or degrees. Also you might ask the Masonic Brothers to talk to both you and your Lady about the Eastern Star which is a part of the Masonic Family. There are many who are interested whom we would welcome into the Masonic Fraternity if they are willing. However, be certain NOT to endanger your family relationship before joining. You might also have some of the Eastern Star Ladies talk with your Lady so She can have an idea as to what the Masonic Family is all about. Your Lady is wrong because once a Member decides to quit all he has to do is ask for a demit and he can leave the Lodge anytime he desires to. Also as an aside there are many Masons who are not active as others, however, the more you get involved the more you get out of it. Masonry has benefitted me much more than I have benefitted Masonry. In addition the Masonic Fraternity places the family first in spite of what others think. Please be free to talk with any of your local Masons and Ladies to get the correct information rather than ask here. there are many who don't know or understand the real workings of the Masonic Fraternity.

you only have to be 21 to join (18 in some cases) and you can leave at any time without worry for yourself, family, possessions, etc...

have your wife join you on a visit to the Lodge, they will be happy to help her understand what Freemasonry is *really* about.

they would not ask you to do anything immoral.

freemasonry is a social fraternity that studies morality through ritual, symbol and allegory. it is not a religion, not a cult and not a political organization.

it seems your wife has read the anti-mason rhetoric which is all false. review masonicinfo.com for some true information.

to some other responses:

* you will not have to make any sacrifices for them, nothing in freemasonry will conflict with your duty to your God, your country, your family, your self, your job or your neighbor

She's right. That's a huge committment and you'll have to make huge sacrifices for them. However, it may be a bit of selfishness on her behalf because they will become like a second family to you. If you are in a position to put them first in your life, then take that chance because they will ask you that you put them first. But if you want to work on you and your wife's relationship and spending time with her while you're young, I would listen to her and wait.

If it is your will to join the freemasons, you should, regardless of age or what your wife says.
