Hmmm - I would take that with a grain of salt. Even when food & medicine is sent to third world countries, most of it never reaches its intended recipients.
This is because in much of the 3rd world hunger and sickness are tools used by corrupt governments to suppress the people.
And if money is given it is hijacked by these corrupt governments for their own use, and to provide luxuries for the ruling elite.

Giving aid is OK and we should do so but like you I feel that a lot of it goes to the wrong people. The point here is can and do we have the moral and military power to ensure that the aid goes to the right people. Whether we like it or not the answer is no we do not. At the same time we should not let the pleas for relief go unheeded so we are between a rock and a hard place. Like you I say that at least some gets through.

World hunger is a huge problem. What is the sollution??? I do agree with you to some extent that even giving what we are isn't stopping the problem, but that food means a LOT to the people who DO receive it. Another huge problem: even people in the U.S. are starving. The food banks are running out of food and the cost of gasoline for example keeps rising. There is eventually going to have to be a breaking point where enough is enough and the government will have to step in....start controlling the prices of gas, etc. They are finally doing something about foreclosure rates at least, but a few years late I think. The economic state of most of the world is bad...

I was watching ashow about africa and they were interviewing the poor people there and they said the corruption is rampant, if you want any money from the aid, then you have to give a bribe first, so if you have no money for the bribe your stuck.
one guy wanted to show the corruption so he plotted a peice of land started to build his house (actually a few poles and some metal peices for the walls, a shack really) within one hour he had to pay out four bribes, one to the mayor, a police officer the lady next door who claimed to own some of the land (which she didn't)and another official. if you don't pay he says, your house gets burned down, you get yoru stuff confiscated and your out of a job. so I am guessing it is the same all over. he paid out in one hour what my hubby makes in 2 weeks working full time equivalent.
aid is a bad joke it is another money maker for some people who are using the poor as their bait.

Depends on the aid. I get your drift cos money and food just IS like pouring water onto sand. It's like giving a homeless person money to spend on alcahol. Best to give them seeds to grow, advice and education. And free them from political bondage.

It is in giving that we shall receive. Charity is a form of love that will transcend criminality. Pouring water on sand is not a bad Idea. That is how Las Vegas came from a barren desert.

I won't buy food from African producers until they can feed themselves. I am amazed at how little was said about the export of food and beer from Ethiopia at the time of Band Aid.

So do you think we should keep all of our money to our self, or do you have some countries in mind that you would like to stop helping? And in doing so, don't you think that those countries have to right to deny access to their country if the U.S. stops supporting them. If that is the case let leave Iraq alone, and let them handle their own business, and they in turn can not supply us with oil. Is that what you were thinking?

There is nothing wrong with helping ones fellow man, in fact it is a privilege, but until there is population control it is like p***ing in the wind.
