I recently heard this as a suggestion from a prominate Psychiatrist.

Let's face it, Reagan would have been suffering from the early stages of alzheimers at some time in his presidency; Clinton from some obsessive compulsive behavior; George W. from some form of alcohol induced mental deficiencies, perhaps.

In many professions or positions containing a high level of stress demands upon the person performing their duties, psychological testing is routine.

Why not for the most important office in the land!

No.

They should be made to serve at least 6 years active duty before being the Commander in Chief.

They should be made to serve at least 3 years in the State Department before pretending to know anything about foreign policy.

And they should be required to have degrees in economics and government before entering public life as an elected official.

That's what you call qualifications.

Incidentally, your claim that Reagan was senile while still in office was gratuitous and makes you look dumb. Liberals are usually not intelligent enough to engage in the marketplace of ideas, and so they rely on slander such as this, even those with MBA's in finance.

That's why few take you seriously.

I once read a book where everyone was given psychological testing, and the person who was given the job of President was the one that LEAST wanted it! I think this would be an excellent idea.

BTW, in this book their calendar dates began from the "Day They Hung The Lawyers"! Perhaps there's something in that....

Anyone who has a desire to become president of the United States should have their head examined to begin with....but not as a requirement.

How could you ensure that the psychologist is non-partisan ?

Seems a poor suggestion to me. Who is without some psychological issues? Few of us.

Sure, start with Kucinich and Paul. That'll make the rest of them seem somewhat normal.

I know what you mean, but even so...
Everyone deserves the right to privacy when it comes to what is said between them and a psychiatrist. People would not be honest otherwise.
