I love Alistair! It's a great, underused variant of Alexander, and I'm sick of the name Alexander. Nicholas is a great, classic name, but kind of common. Marcus is boring and dated. I wouldn't use it.

How about Alistair Nicholas? It's uncommon, but classic and manly.

Anyone I have ever met named Nicholas has been very narcissistic, and full of themselves...(my brother included) I would never name my child that. I like Marcus, I guess, and I like that Alistair is not very used, but I don't know... Maybe put a good middle name in there like James, so they could go by AJ or something... like that...

IMO: Alistair is pompous. Marcus is dorky. Nicholas is cute. Those are my initial reactions to hearing those names. It would be a lot easier going through life as a nick than alistair.

Alistair is a unique, old fashioned name and I find it very sound appealing. Be careful though, other kids can be mean and make fun of names and the abreviated version will be Ali, unless you nick name him early on. My son is Nicholas and I'm not biased but think it's a GREAT name. I do not care for Marcus.

Alistair a good Scottish name, nice abbreviations (Al, Ali) and strong. Nicholas is ok, Marcus a bit poncey though.
