I think every time a newborn is mentioned its weight is brought up.

Why is that, unless it's a a very small or very large baby, who cares?

Is it just a means to gauge the pain the mother went through?

Thanks.

I have no idea, I also don't understand, why you have to fill out a form, while very pregnant, ready to burst out a baby, and in the form, you have to explain what race you are. What does it matter what race, skincolor or religion if you are in that hospital to give birth !!!

When they grow up, they maintain a chart with the height, weight, diameter of the head etc. etc. and compare it against the national average to determine if the child's growth is normal or not. So the initial reading they take during birth, serves as a starting point for the graph and also to ensure if the baby is not underweight during birth.

There are typically 4-5 doctor visits during the first year and 2-3 in the second year and an yearly checkup from 3rd year onwards, where they check the above mentioned, to create a graph to monitor the growth by comparing against the national average.

I never understood why the baby was 0 years old wen its born! the f'ing thing is 9 months old not 1 day old if it was 1 day old it would be the size of a grain of rice!

But yes I figure its a way of bragging saying yes I was such a great mommy I managed to push that out ... Uh huh that makes you great. You can have a baby after you're dead w/o you having to pretend to really work at it. It is NOT an accomplishment in any way shape or form and yes I do realize the pain. Been there done that ...

It is sort of used to say the baby is healthy or not. My smallest girl had the most health problems.
