Because they are the "elite" they don't have to go to war when there are lesser beings out there who can do the fighting for them. In their eyes, the rest of us are here to clean their bathrooms, serve them their fries, fix their cars, oh yeah, and die to preserve their way of life and their business interests. W was the real coward, he never volunteered to fly any missions at all.

Chicken hawks, by popular interpretations, are persons who avoided military service, whether by draft or volunteerism, and who are in positions of power sufficient to send other soldiers to war.

Each of these "chicken hawks" in the White House have made a personal decision to protect themselves and to advance their personal wealth at the expense of other citizens lives & sacrifices.

Remember, though, it was the citizens who through their vote put these "chickenhawks" in the Oval Office.

Because then they would have to care about something, they would have to risk themselves and their own family members.....as everyone knows the leaders of USA are more than willing to risk the lives of YOUR sons+daughters but will not risk the lives of their own....because they go to war now for profit..not for country.

Scott B> No President is Chief of Military but he is Civilian..not Military according to Constitution, Military Code and Federal Regulation. USA was set up to prevent a military dictator so NO member of military can be President without 1st resigning from military.

I think it should be mandatory that anyone wanting to serve as President, or Vice
President, or any other office where they have charge over the military, should have to serve a term in the military.

They thought to themselves, "This is not the time for such true patriotism. There are many volunteers that are more eager and ready to fight and die for their country. As long as their number suffices, let's let those that appreciate their lives more hang on to them."

A president is "commander in Chief" thereby is a member of the military by virtue of their election.

Cheney said he was too busy to go in the service. Bush was used to being a cheerleader and wasn't suited to military life.

It would have interrupted their brilliant careers, which as it turns out, only catapulted them into the disgrace and infamy they wallow in today.

Ironic isn't it? I'm sure even the citizens who "support" them in the polls ( and obediently report their lies about Kerry, etc) have no liking for them as people. How could you?
