My girlfriend is underweight and has BMI of 15. We want to try for a child this year and am afraid she wont be able to conceive because of her unwillingness to eat. Already her cycle is a mess, she sometimes doesnt have period for 2 months. Its a delicate topic which i cant talk to her because she has a complex about eating. I want to know, this behaviour will it be hard for her to get pregnant and will it effect in the future amount of kids we can have?

Well I am sorry to say that her lack of nutrition can cause her cycle to be messed up as it already is therefore making it quite difficult to get pregnant. My first concern would honestly be how healthy a pregnancy could possibly be if she has eating issues. I really believe she needs to get her eating disorder under control before she should get pregnant because if she has fear of gaining weight and does not eat properly than a pregnancy could be a disaster situation for her. Good Luck

Yes. The fact that her cycle is way off is the first indicator that things are going wrong. Anorexia does cause major problems with being able to get pregnant. She needs to see someone and get that in hand first - her weight/body image issues won't just go away when she gets pregnant...and that's not good for baby's development inside.

You need to get your girlfriend in to therapy for her eating/food issues way before you both are considering having a baby. Being underweight is not as much an issue next to the damage from anorexia and bulimia. I have a friend, whose sister is bulimic and her children have suffered greatly during her pregnancies (she is now in recovery and pregnant with her fourth child). Your girlfriend has already compromised her reproductive health with her anorexic tendencies, she needs to take care of herself before taking on the responsibility of having a child. And, you need to be more supportive of her getting her health in check and marrying her before you considering having children with her.

yes. More importantly, the "Unwillingness to eat" can be a sign of deeper problems. Problems that should be faced and controled before trying to have a child.

It will make it harder to get pregnant if it is causing her periods to be irregular. Poor nutrition is also not good for a healthy pregnancy.

If the both of you are hoping to get pregnant, you should go together for a prepregnancy visit at the doctor's. She can get looked at and they will give her advice on how to proceed. Good luck.

It affects ovulation, which is why her periods are messed up, so yes it affects conceiving. She needs to gain some weight and be healthy before trying to conceive.

yes it will be harder for her to get pregnant ,and if you 2 can't talk about this then I would suggest you don't have any kids with her till she is able to talk about this. What happens if she gets pregnant and want eat. She can literally kill her baby.
