I will be using this drive as my only drive. Will be storing about 300GB of music on it and then normal use for the rest . What is the difference between 16 and 8 MB's of cache and with a drive so large which is the best choice and why?

16MB cache is better. i would recommend you get the 500GB for only your media and use it as a second hard drive. get a 160GB hard drive as your main hard drive and use that for your Operating System and other files.

That drive is suppose to be great and fast. I would go with the 16mb, becuase it will help things move smoother. 8mb is decent, but it usually only cost a few dollars more for the 16mb. With 16mb there is more before the hard drive has to think on getting more information it can handle bigger chunks of data before having to consult the other parts of the computer. It will not be double as fast or anything of that nature but on the long it will do better. I hope this helps.

Do you realize what Cashe is?
To optimize a computers performance different parts of the computer have a Cashe or really a waiting room.
So lets say you have a waiting room, would you rather be have a waiting room that can hold 8 people or 16 people. After you server 8 people you would have to wait (kind of) for people to show up. with 16 you can move people threw quicker. This is the same with your Hard drive. its how much data it can process through. The bigger cashe is always better! (they even 32mb cashe on some hard drives).

16 MB is better tha 8 MB for the same reason a V8 camaro is better than a V6 camaro. With hard drives, a bigger cache is always better.

Of course 16Mb, but that hard drive is serial ATA/IDE, which is kinda old. I would recommend you to get a Sata hard drive (if your motherboard supports it), they are faster and newer.

Yeah, go with the larger cache as long as it isn't much more expensive.
