cats! dogs are sooo dependent on you, it's like having a kid. some dogs will tear your furniture to shreds if you leave them home alone, while cats could care less, yet still greet you at the door when you come home.

I really dislike this type of question! It's unfair to compare two animals that are so different in instinct and behaviour!
Cats I love because although they aren't naturally a pack animal and prefer their own company, yet they willingly stay with me and they are such beautiful creatures. My younger cat loves to play with me and fetches her toys for me to throw just like a puppy would. When I'm down or ill she spends all the time with me and is always the first to greet me when I come home! My 16 year old male likes to join the dog and me on our walks and trots along by the side of the dog as if attached by an invisible lead! They can be trained but it takes a different approach than you would use with a dog and most people never try. You can't punish a Cat but then you should never need to punish a dog either!
Dogs are pack animals and need companionship, they'll stay even with an abusive owner, so saying they love us and cats don't isn't really true!
I love all dogs though but particularly the German Shepherd. They are everything that a dog should be, loyal, protective, intelligent gentle, easily trained and fun to have around. Of course they need firm leadership but once they respect you they'll obey because they want to please you, not because they are scared not too!
I'd be lost without either!

Dogs....big dogs. Dogs are much more loving and playful than cats. Some cats only want attention when they want it, and you can love on dogs all the time.

I love having a dog. Dogs are more playful and loving. You don't have to clean a litter box and when you go for walks you both get exercise at the same time.

Cats have always been my favorites - they are independent but can be very sweet and cuddly when they want to be.

Cats. They are cute and cuddly, are litter box trained, don't smell, can be left alone for a couple of days. They are independent, sometimes aloof, Oh, did I say cute??
And they purr.
