Here are my thoughts.
Why should the owners make all the money, because they take all the risk.
As great as we feel that some of these players are, if they never existed, we wouldn't miss them.
You may love Jeter, Ramirez, Pujols, but individually none of them played, baseball would not have changed.
For Boras, he's kind of like Remax. They promise that they will sell for the most.
However, the catch 22 would be: If you were the buyer and you knew that a Remax agents sells for the most, then you wouldn't look at Remax agents sales because you know you will pay more for it.
For Boras, he has top tier clients because he gets the most for them. Having Boras as an agent is a tell-tale sign that the player is really only in it for the $$
Now, if owners and GMs really didn't negotiate with Boras, then his clients would realize that he doesn't get the most for his clients, so, he would cease to be #1 in the agent market.

Selig. Boras is simply using the free agent system and the draft system to make money - he's successful because the owners usually end up giving in to him for fear of looking bad. He'd be easy to overcome if anyone had any cojones. Selig is a bigger problem. He has presided over the sport's slide from being "America's pasttime" to an also-ran. He thinks a sport dominated by a handful of markets is good, but can't recognize the fact that they are building no new fans in Pittsburgh, in Kansas City, in Baltimore, or any of a number of other cities that can't regularly compete with the Yankees, Red Sox, or other teams that can spend 2, 3, or 4 times as much. He thinks that just because MLB is making money, they're a healthy sport.

He's obviously good at pushing the owners around and getting money for his clients, but he also ruins careers. Look how long it took for Alex Rodriguez to have a decent season in New York. And Barry Zito was a complete tank in San Francisco after getting his big Boras-contract. Who's next? Sure, you get the big paycheck, but to sign with him means to become a curse to the game. I'd certainly be wary if I was an athlete.

The owners not making money is a good idea, but we end up paying more when the clubs bring on high price talent. The fans split the bill, so keep giving him your vote of confidence as we pay his commission. Also, he drives up the contracts, so that only the Yankees or Red Sox will be able to sign the best players.

boras is brilliant, i dont like him, but hes brilliant, he may ask for obscene amounts of money, but you know what? he gets those amounts, and his players that benefit the most from that
does he ask for way too much sometimes? yes
is he bad for baseball? in some ways yes
but the owners pay what he asks for, or at least close to it, so you cant really blame him in any fairness

the man is obviously very good at this job. the only problem is he is sooo good that many clubs are saying they don't want to deal with him. hence a-rod trying to negotiate his own contract with New York.
