I would go for "Billy the Kid" anytime. The movie is funny, painful, moving, and constantly revealing.
"Enchanted" is my instant classic from Disney, This animated fairy tale meets with the modern, live-action romantic comedy is for all ages to see. I enjoyed it so much.
"Stephen King's The Mist" was also good. I love to watch horror movies especially about small town folks come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist.

Don't know about recently but the three best films this year.
Die Hard 4.0 - Bruce Willis is a legend and this is probably the best simple action fof the past 5 years.
30 Days of Night - This is what Horror films should be, a good bit of gore and jumps all the way through. Scared the poo out of me.
Knocked Up - So funny and based on somthing that happens way too often.

1408 - I liked it because it actually scared me in a way I haven't been scared by a movie in a long time. It was just brilliant
Hot Fuzz - Not too recent, but it really is hilarious. One of the better movies I've seen in the last few years
The Rescuers - Not at all recent, but I saw it a couple of weeks ago for the first time in ages, and remembered how lovely it is

Transformers
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
With all three it HAS to be the special effects. All three were awesome in that department.

The Polar Express - animation over live action - better than I expected.
Live Free or Die Hard - action never stops.
Spiderman 3 - lengthy, but keeping the spirit alive (following some storylines from the early comics.)
