If you've been following the news, you know that Oprah is stumping for Obama in a number of Midwestern cities where she has a strong following. Sell-out crowds of 30,000+ people are showing up with, what the news reporters are calling, "revival-like enthusiasm", to come see Oprah and to listen to the candidate she is promoting.

Is it Obama they are coming to see? Or Oprah? If you like Oprah, are you automatically inclined to vote for Obama?

Oprah is female. Many thought she would back Hillary. Oprah is also black. But she has made her choice now and is backing Obama.

But might her orchestrating these sell-out crowds and stumping for Obama be a cleverly disguised way to pave the way for her OWN run at politics, either at a lesser level, or even for the office of the Presidency in 2016, assuming Obama wins in 2008, is re-elected in 2012, and he passes the baton to the one most responsible for his success, i.e. Oprah?

Oprah is 53 now. She'll be 61 in 2016, FYI.

My concern is that there are many voters who really don't think things through. Not all, happily, not all. If Obama becomes President, Oprah is not running the government. BUT...she will have had INCREDIBLE influence on who got elected and I'm not so sure that HER celebrity status immediately translates into a BETTER choice for President. I sense her fight is more for opening the doors for more black people in office, and in that regard, may want to keep her options open too. She may have grown tired of doing talk shows for so many years. Holding a public office is quite seductive for those with an appetite for power.

Oprah doesn't like having power, does she? Not sweet Oprah!

And as history has shown, how many people in the public eye have stated emphatically they have no intentions on running for office, but then later...after SO much urging by their supporters they finally RELENT and enter the race. Witness Fred Thompson.

She may not run for Pres. Other offices open

No, I doubt that she would think of running for President, but you never know.. She can add it to her list of amazing accomplishments. She's not a very political person, so stumping for Obama is difficult for her.

I live in Iowa, and the crowds ARE coming to see Oprah. This is the closest they will get to seeing her. She has a large fan base here. But, her integrity behind the candidate is a huge risk for her, and she believes in Obama.

Oh please.. that is just silly.. she has no political background and knows as about as much about the world as a 2nd grader.. Why make a mockery of the Presidency by even thinking a capitalist ACTRESS can run a country of multiple problems and issues.. She's a TV personality much like Homer Simpson.. Turn off the TV and watch the real happenings around the world for crying out loud.. Funny how during an election time in the USA the truly ignorant people come out.

She certainly has enough money and fame to run an awesome campaign. If Arnold can be a politition then so can Oprah. I really hope that never happens as she is so rich that she is completely out of touch with reality, and real citizen's needs. Sure she seems to be this compassionate woman who has overcome something large and really made something of herself, but with that comes a woman who wouldn't understand me at all. I wouldn't vote Oprah as much as I'd like to see a female as President.

I like Oprah. I think she's a wonderful person. but not enough for her to affect who I'm going to vote for. I don't think she'll run for President. what would have been really funny to see is Colbert vs Winfrey for Presidency this Year. now that might have been a close race.

What's wrong with that? Do you have something against a successful black woman running for president? Is the idea so intolerable to you or are you just trying to denigrate Oprah for supporting Obama instead of Hillary?

Oprah's currently in a position where many people like her, and no one definitively hates her; getting into politics would effectively cut her fan base in half, and she would certainly become less influential than she is now.

I think Oprah is happy doing exactly what she's doing. I don't think she wants to live in that drafty old White House. Haven't you ever seen her new house? All that closet space!

She just believes in her candidate and in America. Stop looking for ulterior motives. What do you think Chuck Norris or Barbra Streisand want in return for their endorsement of their candidates? See what I mean?

Obama in '08.

She has no leadership background, no experience in public office.

Just because she has a lot of money doesn't make her qualified for the job.

Condy Rice would be a much saner suggestion.
