Sorry, but the guy above is wrong, the BMW TDS does have an intercooler, as opposed to the TD, which doesn't.
The TDS model is similar mechanically to a VW TDi unit of the same era.

They are different diesel engines, built by different manufacturers (BMW and VW - I'll let you guess which built which).

No...TDI stand for turbo disel intercooled
TDS...is turbo disel sport
