With Trent Dilfer being knocked out of the game on Sunday, and Alex Smith possibly done for the season, the 49ers may need at least a #2 quarterback for this upcoming weekend. I'm just curious to know if there is anyone with any kind of a resume who might be available.

Ashley R: Sad to say, but Ryan Leaf might actually be a revelation compared to what they've had this year.

Corey: I never understood why the 49ers let Garcia go in the first place. Sure he was no Steve Young or Joe Montana, but he did a decent job. And it seems like he's had a solid career since leaving SF. If nothing else, he might be a better choice for Alex Smith's backup next year.
But my question was more about what to do for the rest of this year - and specifically next week.

I'm a niners fans and I think they should just count their losses with smith, release him and go sign mcnabb in the offseason. This season is a wash Mike Nolan can play qb for all I care for the next game. He might as well they have him doing everything else. Don't get me wrong I like the guy but I always felt being a gm/coach is too much responsibility for one person.
As far as releasing Garcia, I got the impression it was a salary cap related issue. They offer him something, I don't think they could of offered more because of their cap debacle, he declined and off he went.

If the bucs do not make the playoffs and jon gruden is let go jeff garcia may be out of a job when chris simms returns and then it might be time for garcia to retire as a 49er or they can try to pick up byron leftwich because the falcons will most likely keep harrington or find someone else.
I think Byron and Garcia are hte most likely to be able to fill but i would not be surprised for the 49ers to just stick with alex smith because the team did have a few injuries to key players such as vernon davis and a solid TE is very important if the team wants to be competitive something they have not been in quite a while.

To answer your question, if there is anyone legit worth having, they probably would have a job already. Look around at some of the guys who were signed as emergencies this season! Bledsoe, Doug Johnson, Koy Detmer (is he on a team right now? I thought someone signed him, but released him again), and even Aaron Brooks all could be considered for the job.
The most sense may be to pick up Ken Dorsey. He played a few good games for them a few years back.
Actually, I think the reason why they're not scrambling for a qb has a little to do with what |▒▒▒▒| said.... if worst comes to worst, they actually can stick Robinson back there.... I mean... honestly.... what's the worst that can happen? It's not like they're still playing for a playoff spot...

You're not excited about the start of the Shaun Hill era? The Niners will basically have to pick up someone off the waiver wire. Or look at Arena Football rosters...
How about Adrian McPherson? Remember the ex Florida State QB who got kicked off the team... Then he played for the AFL and was drafted in 2005. During warmups, he was hit by the Tennessee Titan mascot on a golf cart and then got waived... Well he's back in the AFL so I'm sure he's willing to give the NFL a chance.

He has no longer shown any promise in 3 years. i'm a 9ers fan and it's time to drag the plug. Shaun Hill appeared extra suitable in 2 video games(the two wins) vs. Smith in 3 harm crammed seasons. i does no longer be shocked if the Niners draft a QB this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days with the hot GM. i desire they proceed to reinforce up their protection that's taking off to tutor some genuine useful strides. Willis AP shielding rookie of the 300 and sixty 5 days - That dude became such a stud, ultimate the league in tackles as a rookie.

Mike McMahon? Aaron Brooks? Jay Fiedler?
Forgot about Drew Bledsoe.
I'd sign McMahon. He's the only one of the above that can still be classified as young.
I think Ken Dorsey is still on another team.

We'll the only ones I see out their on Free agent lists that would be worth picking up are. Drew Bledsoe and Aaron Brooks. But I wouldn't pick up Aaron Brooks to be the QB for my backyard football team.

The 69ers should think about next season, and go for the #1 draft pick.
Oh, I forgot, they traded it to the Patriots!
Ok, never mind.
