Most South Africans speak English, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll understand what they're talking about. South African English has a flavor all of its own. What words do you know of that is generally accepted as "English"?

1. Lekker = nice
2. Howzit = how are you
3. My china = my friend
4. Bru = brother/friend
5. Bakkie = is a like a car where you put sheep etc in the boot. I actually can not remember what you call it in english, oh yes, its a pick up truck
6. Doos = is like a bad person
7. Zol = cigarette made out of tobacco or weed or both
8. Klippies = Brandy
9. castle = Beer
10. Braai = barbeque
11. Boer bull = a type of vicious dog
12. cherry = girlfriend
can't think of any other words now but there are lots.

Ayiza you're right... its amazing how many words we've borrowed from english and so forth coz they previously didnt exist in our languages. Take for example a motor bike, the zulu's used its sound (bike engine) to make up a word for it that up until today I find so hilarious!!! motorbike = isithuthuthu...! (e.c.2.2.2) - *to help pronounce*

There are quite a few that are amusing to non-SA´s. Ja, gatvol, klap, mielie, naarthie, laaitjie, skyf (cigarette), boeretan, vrot or frot, skinner, bakkie, combie, takkies (sneakers or tyres), lekker, jol, bucks (money, and bakkie.

Aardvark- first word in most dictionaries and South African! means literally "earth pig" in Afrikaans and is another name for anteater

'Kak' is the new word for our office staff and they didn't know what it meant until recently. SA's are also sometimes referred to as Springboks, but well done Cakes and Lise, those were great examples! I had a good giggle from that, thanks.

I use nooit a lot (or its english boet, nought). Sometimes i have to stop myself using it in posts.

My fiancee is alway saying ''damn skippy'' = damn right. There are some more i will find out. Also she says yahh alot instead of yeah, sounds like the queen lol
