Well, we do, don´t we. They are adorned with green and gold "baubles", commonly known as figs. I´ve just come back from a long, hard day at work, and must thank all of you for your humorous posts, I have been cackling all the way since I signed in to YQ&A, this evening. And figs trees disguised as Christmas trees, well, that´s the spirit! Keep it up.

In 40 years of life in SA I have never seen a fig tree used as a Christmas tree.
When you say "English" do you mean England or Safrican English?

Must be a spelling mistake are you sure you didn't misread FIR and not FIG trees? We use the same trees as anywhere else in the world i.e. Fir trees.

I think you are mistaking the old custom of wearing only fig leaf costumes for Xmas parties. . . .Does that text book also mention that British men beat up their wives after parties for flirting?
