Thanks for the quick responce from all of you. Additional information may help. Also, how do I find the amount of RAM I have now? My computer's mother board is a GA-7VT600 (-L) its older but it has been a good runner. It also says "Gigabyte Socket A Motherboard"

Whoa..The total response was outstanding. I went on-line, had my computer analyized, and found that my total RAM was only 256. I had three empty slots for additional RAM and ordered a 1 gig upgrade. Thank you all for the time and info. It helped me a ton! or should I say a (Gig)

I took Ralfcode's advice and got on line with a company that checks out the computer through up and down load. The report showed too low RAM (256 m) I purchased a 1 gig card from them, installed it myself, and it seems like I have a new computer. Yahoo answers are the best thing since sliced bread. Thanks all!

Yes, More RAM will improve your computers performance. Add as much as you can afford up to the max the motherboard will handle. Check your documentation first.

hi, That relies upon on the working gadget, if it 32 bit then it is going to in uncomplicated terms use a optimal of approximately 3.seventy 5 gig. A sixty 4 bit OS would be waiting to apply so lots extra, in a server that would help a undeniable volume. while you're working a ideal server with a server working gadget then extra ram might desire to correctly be stable yet while that's barely a classic pc then the os will by no ability be waiting to attend to a extensive volume of in / out site visitors. maximum possibly the genuine velocity progression will place self belief in the potential of the pc, the cpu and pictures card specifically. without understanding the specification of your pc i can not say extra suitable than that. Normally, Computer Speed is defined by throughput of processor but RAM helps us in using virtual memory space.
Options:
1. You can also increase your virtual memory space by right clicking your my computer icon, Select advanced option and press settings button from performance dialog box window change the Total paging file size for the primary booting drive such as C: to size of your RAM.
2. Optimize your all startup program by altering selective startup from system configuration utility dialog box window by executing msconfig command from Run.
3. If you have Windows XP System with 256MB RAM or 512MB RAM my better choices is to upgrade to 1GB RAM for better performances in graphics related work.

So try first two options see to that your computer working bit faster than previous working experience and if you want more speed better choose right RAM for the Motherboard and also processor. Go for third option.

Ram will not speed up your computer but it will increase the performance,

When you start your computer windows creates a temporary file that it uses to store temperary data. When you are running your programs , if there is not enough ram to store temp data it writes back to the hard drive to that temp file. So the more ram you have the faster your computer can access the data in the program you are using and your hard drive will last longer.

It will run faster and smoother with more RAM. You never have too much RAM I recommend with Windows XP of Vista running 2GB (2048MB) of RAM. and also look at your video card that is another spot that will slow you down. If your PC uses on board video add a video card either AGP or PCI-E card.

Depends on the type of pc you have.

More ram gives a bigger boost the less ram you have.

512MB running XP will be quite slow, upgrading to 1GB would see a big improvement, and 2GB would see a fast improvement.

But if you have a slow cpu, then it won't be as good an upgrade.

It sure can, especially if you have windoze Vista or XP installed. The website below can tell you what you can add to your system. I've used them and had good results in getting a nice boost in speed.

If you decide to install the memory chip yourself (and it's easy to do) be sure to get an anti-static strap when you do it. They're only a few dollars, and they'll protect you from toasting the memory chip with a stray bit of static electricity. You can find installation instructions at the site below, too.

if you currently have less than 1G of RAM - yes, upgrade will help. if you are already at 1G or more - don't bother...
