"Ontologies" means those things that have been determined to exist in reality.

Ontology is the study of what is real.

Most philosophers make a distinction between two types of search for the real.

The first is ontology, the effort to determine what is real.

The second is epistemology, the study of how we know what is real. To many philosophers, we cannot truly know what is real; the best we can do is figure out how we learn about reality. These philosophers tend to ignore ontology and concentrate on epistemology.

It seeks to describe or posit the basic categories and relationships of being or existence to define entities and types of entities within its framework
