My son was physically out at 12.03 pm according to the clock on the wall in the labour room (I remember looking at it). He took his first breath a couple of seconds later. But somehow, my doctor noted the time of birth as 11.59 am (according to his watch, maybe). In the end, it didn't really matter.

In India we believe that when baby is physically out then his/her time of birth is recorded. The time of birth in general noted by the Doctor or nurse in labour room.

i gave birth on thursday and they said 3 times to me, the first time was the delivery of the head at 10.28 and the second was the delivery of the baby at 10.30 and the third was the delivery of the placenta at 10.37 i was told my baby was born at 10.30 and that this was when the whole of the baby was physically out. there was a student midwife delivering my baby so there was alot of talking through everything.

its really when the midwife/doctor looks at the clock to write down the time of birth so it could actually be a minute or so after the baby is born
