There are all kinds of claims being made regarding this point. There are always going to be people who vote for dopey reasons. Gender, looks, sexiness, nice looking family, religion, haircut, etc. However, I have a hard time believing the gender votes are all that big a deal.
By far, most Democratic women support Hillary because they are Democrats and she is the perceived front-runner. There are also many Democratic women who want Bill Clinton back in the White house and the public eye. However, when it comes to Republican women that is a different story. Very few Republican women would support any Democrat woman or not and especially this woman! Moderates are, by definition, moderate. They will do what Moderates always do. They will jump on the bandwagon of whomever seems to have a decided edge. If there is no candidate who has an edge they will split 50/50.
Hillary will need more than her gender and wishful thinking to win the General Election. In fact, she is now in danger of even getting the nomination.
If she does not win the Democratic Primary decisively, she stands no chance in the General Election. Without big support from the Democrats she will not get the Moderates.
Merry Christmas!

Well, I'm a white woman too, and I like Obama. I think he has the courage, integrity and common sense intelligence to lead this country out of the big hole that the current administration has dug us into. However, I like Hilary too, and not just because she is a woman. Did you listen to the Democratic debate. There was a question asked, "In ONE (1) word, can you answer whether or not you will.........." Hilary was the only one who answered with ONE word. All the rest disregarded the request with a lot of polictical jibber jabber. That is just a small example of what exemplifies her integrity. Also, I like Bill and I think he will be a great asset to helping her as President. I personally don't care whether the person is a woman, man, black or white; but unfortunately, I think there are a lot of people who do.

I guess it goes both ways you have women voting for hillary because she's a woman and you have whites or blacks voting for obama because he's black. Me personally I don't care if there a man or woman, black or white, I just want the best person to win that can get this country back like it should be, someone who won't kiss butt just to be popular with this one or that one, someone who really believes in america and what we are supposed to stand for. I thought bill did a good job, so what he gave in to desire, are any of us perfect? This country was in a heck of better shape when he was in office, I have nothing good to say about bush, he's done nothing but put this country in the ground

Okay. Do you know that George Busch is a republican? Well, many people want a democrat. Hillary is a democrat. Yes, many people are probably voting for her because she is a women. And, African Americans are voting for Obama because he is black like the African Americans. So, it's kind of like sides on voting. If you are a women, yes and some males, they may vote for Hillary for those democrat or women reasons. And if you are black, and some whites, you will get picked to show the whites that an African American can run our country just as better as a white.

Most women I know, even liberal ones, cant stand her. Having said that, I am sure there is a decent percentage of voters that are voting for her just because she is a woman just as some people are voting for Obama because he part black. I think race and gender are pathetic reasons to vote for or against a candidate. If a woman like Margaret Thatcher ran I would vote for her, if Clarence Thomas ran I would vote for him- I'd do so because I believe in the same general principles of government as they do and that is what SHOULD matter

Just because Hillary is a woman, you vote for her is not smart.
We need a President who knows what he is doing. The President does not need to be a man, but has to be intelligent, integrity, courage, smart. Hilliary always follows the winner's opinion, and changes so fast. As soon as the public opinions change, she changes. She has no policy.
I do not know Obama before. Recently, I listened to several Obama's TV speeches, questions and answers. I am convinced the Obama is better than Hillary. We can not afford another 4 years for Hillary.

Well, I'm a black woman and I'll be the first to say that I'm not voting for Hillary because she's a woman, nor am I voting for Obama because he's black.
I will be voting for the person (man or woman) who I feel will be a good president. Race or gender will NOT be a factor in my vote.

I believe that Hillary gets a lot of support because she is a woman, and that Obama gets a lot of support because he is black. Think about it; if Obama were white, would he have any chance of being elected president with his inexperience in national politics and foreign affairs? I don't think so.
Also, I believe that some whites will vote for Obama to prove that they are not prejudiced against blacks, and some men will vote for Hillary to prove that they are not male chauvinists!

A huge chunk of them are - in fact, if they weren't "first" candidates (candidates people support because they want to see a "first" of something - be it black or female), they probably wouldn't have half the appeal they do. Also, note that if Clinton and Obama had been from the Republican party, their support would be lower. That's because a lot of people are discriminating against Republicans just because of the current idiot in office.

Sadly, this is true. Why do think Oprah is backing Obama. Do you think she really knows his political agenda? She knows his color. Same with Hillary backers, some women will vote simply because she is a woman. I could vote for either but not for racial or gender issues, but because I believe in their poloitical agenda. This also works against them, as some men will vote against them just to prove a point. Our next election will be a joke.
