The point of the points in yahoo answers is basically a boost for us to compete with each other and answer questions better than each other just so our answers can be picked as the best answer. After a certain moment when u have reached level 5, the points dont mean a thing but u still wanna go on cause the fact that ur answer was chosen best makes u happy and drives u to answer more questions. This is a plus for all of us cause we get our questions answered and we feel satisfied after answering someone else's question with a good answer. So eventually whats the point of the points?...To make us better individuals. We learn by questioning and answering. I don't speak for all though. This is just my opinion. Merry Xmas to all!

Good question, some people seem to use the points as part of a game.

The more points you have, the more people will assume you're serious about helping them with their problems/questions..I think.

You can redeem them for nice little gifts like a tote bag or compact fluorescent light bulbs and other cool stuff.

It's for me to point to the points and show to the other users that my points are more than their points.
That's the point!
