What legislation is on the hill soon/now that you are interested in and why?

The SAVE Act which will really do something about illegal immigration, and protect American workers' wages and opportunities, (S. 2366 and S. 2368).

The SAVE Act is tough on illegal immigration. The National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) quickly endorsed the House version. The NAPO was founded in 1978 and is now the strongest unified voice supporting law enforcement in the United States.

The SAVE Act is fair for businesses. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), which represents more than 600,000 small businesses in every state, endorsed the SAVE Act's requirement that every employer run every new hire (and eventually old hires) through the electronic E-Verify system to ensure that illegal aliens don't take American jobs. It said the bill strikes a “fair balance between increased enforcement and limiting regulatory burdens placed on small business.”

The SAVE Act is fair towards workers. The 752,000-member International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) endorsed the Secure America through Verification and Enforcement Act (SAVE Act), saying that "mass unregulated immigration into the United States creates unfair wage competition, which is detrimental to the best interests of U.S. citizens and legal residents..."

The SAVE Act preserves our liberties. The IBEW praised the SAVE Act for focusing on denying "entry of all unauthorized immigrants into the United States by securing its borders to the maximum extent possible without compromising constitutionally guaranteed personal and civil liberties.”

The SAVE Act is a moderate, middle-of-the-road solution to illegal immigration that will cause anywhere from a half-million to a million illegal aliens to go home each year. It is not a solution that will cause millions of illegal aliens to go back home each year. Although rapid self-deportation would save local communities large sums of tax money immediately, it would also cause some difficulties in some business sectors that may need more time to create new recruitment channels into underutilized American populations.

The SAVE Act is a thoughtful bill that takes all sides into account. There are two identical versions of the SAVE Act in the Senate, S. 2368 (introduced by Senators Pryor and Landrieu) and S. 2366 (introduced by Senator Vitter).

I'm hoping the energy bill that raises the CAFE standards and promotes alternative energy will pass without being too watered down by oil interests

I am more interested that they pass no bills - since every bill they have passed since the 60's was bad news for us!

To all Congress members: I want to urge you to vote in favor of the impeachment of George Bush and Dick Cheney. Please send a message to Washington and to the world that we will no longer tolerate and condone the actions of this administration.
George Bush and a handful of his advisors led this country into an ill conceived war under false pretenses. They misled the Congress of the U.S. and ignored the efforts and council of the United Nations. The tradgedy of the war felt in Iraq, here in the U.S., and around the world as a result of their mis-representations of the facts, scare tactics, and/or their ineptness is reason to impeach Bush and Cheney.
This is not a waste of time. Waiting until the next election does not bring accountability. History will judge whether or not the American people so willingly tolerated such an abuse of power. Will you help your fellow representatives find a way to make this difficult decision and show the world that this country will hold this administration accountable to our laws and constitution?
