Birth of Christ is the occasion, not the meaning. His birth is not the meaning in itself. Why he was born, the idea of hope that his birth symbolizes in light of the life he lived.

I say hope, but hope in what. Hope in the ability to go to heaven? This is what his life gave us in the religious context. Hope in a life that doesn't need sacrifice, only the self-satisfaction of the ultimate forgiveness that comes in exchange for submission of the soul.

Hope. Hope that spiritual peace is real.

According to Christian tradition, he fulfilled that hope, into the knowledge that heaven is accessible to all, not simply the chosen. Christ gave us the hope that we all can chose our course, for better or worse. I think that's a pretty good message.

I like to think we're celebrating the birth of the most important person who ever lived, after all, He is the one who is saving us from our sinful selves.

Oh, and by the way, it's not His birth that is so important, it's really His life, His ministry, and His death and resurrection that really save us.

Is this misuse of the word 'on' like that as when spoken WAITING ON instead of WAITING FOR?

For example: I hear many people say they are waiting on someone when they are not working as a waiter.
