Simplifying
12x^2 + -27

Reorder the terms:
-27 + 12x^2

Factor out the Greatest Common Factor (GCF), '3'.
3(-9 + 4x^2)

Factor a difference between two squares.
3((3 + 2x)(-3 + 2x))

Final result:
3(3 + 2x)(-3 + 2x)

You can take it one step further since 4x^2-9 factors into

(2x+3)(2x-3)
