Ha! I'd love it if someone found an ancient scripture somewhere declaring that Adam and Eve met in a chatroom! Not really sure what is has to do with oil though...?
The way I see it, running out of oil is bad economically in the short term, but in the long run will ease lots of strained political relations between oil producing countries and the West, as well as giving the environment one hell of a break.
In my opinion.

Oil has effectively made the planet a smaller place, meaning we can buy goods and commodities in from a long way away. This means that we no longer need to produce all our necessities in our towns, which means we have built up larger areas with housing but very little industry.
Adam and Eve (allegedly) didn't get their food from ASDA, they ate what was available in their garden. Personally, I'd rather not eat what's growing in my garden.
Food gets to ASDA in lorries which run on oil based fuels. No oil means there will be no food to feed the people.
So, yes, we DID cope OK without it, but things change. The world has moved on since before oil was discovered and its now considered a necessity.

If we find an alternative soon it ok. But as of right now, it is a dangerous situation. All the transportation system is based on oil. This includes the food you get, the transportation to get to work, plastics, and just about everything. If something were to happen to supply, there would be hyper inflation. Especially when the middle east is trying to go nuclear.

I can walk or ride a bike. I grow fruit/ veg in my garden- I'd grow more. I don't NEED to go abroad on holiday.
I think we really need petrol and oil but I'd be willing to change my lifestyle , if necessary, to help out

I'm sure we did fine without it, but now, having had it and seeing how easy it made our lives, it would be hard going without it.
