I've seen a lot of people here this morning complaining that Oprah's endorsement of Obama comes only because he is black.

So I have two questions.

1. So what? The man would not have come this far if he was some schmoe off the street; he has political experience (not enough, in my book, but that's irrelevant to this discussion) and he has shown excellent leadership qualities; so if Oprah IS only endorsing him over, say, Hillary Clinton or John Edwards because of the color of his skin... so what?

2. If the only problem you have with her endorsement is that you think it's racially motivated... if he was exactly the same guy, only white, would you let Oprah endorse him without whining about it?

Loc - how about I ask my questions, and you use your own five points to ask yours? I asked exactly the question I wanted to. Thanks.

To everyone: I don't CARE about the political party of the people making these statements. I'm asking them to answer this question.

Oprah has every right to endorse who she wants. Look at Chuck Norris and his endorsement for Hucklebee. Neither endorsement will determine how I place my vote.

Good point, so What? I have no problem with her endorsing the candidate of her choice and don't understand why anyone else would.

I don't think it is racially motivated, I think that he is from Illinois and she lives there and is endorsing a "favored son" which I would do if they were from Michigan.

I don't think it will make much of a difference in the end anyway, it is one thing to have a popular show on TV and quite another to enter into the political ring, which Oprah should have learned from Sean Penn, Rosie O'Donnell and Danny Glover to name a few.

I don't know that there is a lot of whining so much as discussion; at least from what I've read.

In my opinion, she can endorse whomever she wants. I personally think that she should not attempt to use her status to influence politics. Let the politicians do their thing. I think there is too much celebrity interference in politics.

If she is, or anyone else is, supporting Obama sole because of racial loyalty, while that is their right, I just think it is irresponsible. Race should be irrelevant.

i think that if she have been particularly greater black than lady, she might have recommended a black candidate some time past (and there have been certainly some to choose for between). i'm no longer the biggest Oprah fan, yet I do have admire for that lady, and that i admire the ideas she makes. i think that she recommended Obama by way of fact she somewhat thinks that he's the main suitable subject for our united states of america perfect now. I help Hillary via the way.

Nice rant there, Sunshine. If I'm not mistaken, most of the questions about this subject today have been posted by liberals.

But, to answer your "question", I could care less who Oprah endorses. I do think it is pretty pathetic for someone to make an endorsement based solely upon skin color. How is that any different from a person who refuses to vote for someone because of their skin color?

I find it shocking that Chuck Norris -- a white man -- would endorse Huckabee -- also a white man.

Funny that no one considers this racially motivated.

Why don't you mention that they are mostly Dem posters?

The whining is because there is no issue and the dems are trying to create one that does not exist. Face it Republicans only care that he is a democrat and could care less who endorses him. The racial problem is in your own party and you need to deal with it there.

I see your point and have wondered the same thing... although I wouldn't agree that it's been mainly Dem/Lib askers doing this.

(p.s.--This question was well-organized and was not a rant.)
