I live in Philadelphia PA. I'm trying to find out the name of the on-air disc jockey that would worked in the AM on station WDAS, 105.3 on the FM band 10 years ago. It's Steve Harvey now, prior to that it was Tom Joyner. I want the person who would have been before Tom Joyner. Thank you.

Jerry Wells, host of The Morning Party, was the WDAS-FM morning personality for many years, dating back as far as the 1970 s, and well into the 1980 s. Louise Williams, the longtime host of Sunday gospel show on WDAS-AM in the 1960 s, followed Jerry as host of the WDAS-FM Midday show in the mid 1970 s. Louise had a very soft approach to Soul between 10 am and 2 pm daily, and it was very good. Eventually Butterball, transitioning over from WDAS-AM (following the Jimmy Bishop years), took over the WDAS-FM midday show in the very late 1970 s, where he and his audience would softly "melt the day away". This was Butter s catch phrase for a very highly dayparted late-morning show on the "FM Band", featuring the mellower rhythm and blues tracks during those years of the disco era and beyond. WCAU-FM s sophisticated "Fascinating Rhythm" format went up against DAS-FM from 1976-1980, but I believe DAS held it s audience while CAU-FM struggled. Either way, both stations were very good, creating a competitive spirit that made for very interesting listening. In my opinion, this was the golden age of Philly radio.
