Or I guess a more complicated question, Is the mind simply just the functionings of the brain or something far more complicated?

I think I believe the mind is a function that interacts between the body and the soul... so I guess if you put it that way, yes it would die with the body because the body is the other half of the connection. But that doesn't mean the soul doesn't live on...

Very philosophical...now I'm going to be thinking about it all day :)

The mind does die with the body. Continuing along the same vein as the answer above, matter cannot be created or destroyed but it can be changed! Following this law of the conservation of mass, the mind then continues to exist in another state after it "dies." What that next state is there is no proven law for.

This is the very question that I have been thinking for many many years. i think that the mind die a little later than the body. The body can die quite quickly as the blood stop running after a collision, but the mind somewhat shall be delayed to die.

There are people that believe that the electrical activity that is taking place in the mind continues on after death. They point to Einstien's law E=mc squared. This means that matter cannot be created or destroyed and since energy is a function of matter it holds true for that. If you believe in this then you are well on your way to belief in psychic and multi dimensional existance.
