i'm 18
5'2''
120 lbs.
athletic build
and i'm happy with my body except MY HUGE BOOBS!
they're not proportionate with my body....at all.

i want to get a breast reduction covered by my insurance (tufts)

i have:
-obvious neck pain
-indents in my shoulders from bra strap
-lower back pain
-bump at the bottom on my neck (spine)
-i'm getting hunch backed
-difficulty working out. the movement of them hurts my chest afterwards
-breathing feels deep and heavy

i have even dropped 10 lbs since the summer to see if i'd drop a size in my chest...and i'm left with a smaller body and the same size boobs. so now i look even more odd.

my questions are.....

do you think i have a chance here to get a breast reduction covered by my insurance?

who judges whether or not insurance will cover it, and what is their criteria, specifically?

what are the steps i have to take to start this process?

(please share a personal story if you have one.)

thank you!

If you have health issues you can get it covered by insurance.

Your insurance company will be the one to approve the surgery or not.

Depending on how picky your insurance is, you may need to either lose weight and/or see a chiropractor.

My insurance company was not picky and I got approved in about four to six weeks.

You should see at least THREE plastic surgeons in your health care directory (if you go out of the network you would pay more out of pocket).

Talk to your family doctor.

AND, I've got a "surgery story" but you would have to send me your email address as it is a large file.

I had mine reduced Feb 2006 (38J to 38C) and do not regret it one bit.

This site also helped me out a LOT:

You can go see a plastic surgeon. they will take pictures . The insurance company goes on weather they (the DR.)think it is medically necessary or not. The plastic surgeon generally will have to submit all supporting documents before the surgery to back up medical necessity and then the ins. company will decide. My suggestion is to have a consultation with and let him know some of your problems and let him decide.

I believe your doctor can determine if it's medically necessary for a reduction...good luck, I can only imagine the discomfort..

Please get all the info you can about breast reduction. Call your insurance. I'm sure someone can help you. Definitely talk to a Doctor about your spine.

I need to have a look at the offending body part before making my decision.

You need to get your Dr to say its medically necessary. Then you call your insurance and ask if they will pay for it
