they want to live forever so they focus on what scares them the most, the end?

I believe you have it exactly backwards.

One question that pops up around here from time to time is "would you live forever if you could?". Do a search and read some of the answers. You will find that the vast majority of people do NOT want to live forever. They WANT to die.

I always ask myself why they would want this. The only thing I can think of is that they are afraid of life. They know bad things can happen and they hope to escape from life like a thief with a bag full of good things before any bad stuff can catch up to them. They believe in one of a hundred philosophies of death that tell them that once they escape everything will be okay.

They aren't scared of death. They're scared of life and they're scared of dying. The only way they can avoid both is if the end just drops out of the sky.

I think they are more afraid of the end of the world as they know it more so than the litteral end. Time shifts swiftly and you notice it from talking to people with just a few years difference. They are afraid of the change.
When you turn the question around and create a religious brigade... that in turn makes it just that, a soap box of thoughts and fears being driven into the minds of non believers and etched even deeper into the believers themselves.
I myself would be more worried about the end of the day and whether I will see tomorrow, than to worry about the end of the world.

The 'end of the world' fraternity is usually comprised of the same people obsessed with the origin of the world.
Beginnings, ends and purposes, this is a revolving nightmare in their collective brain.

Most people are obsessed with their own mortality (which is part of the reason).

Others are convinced that there is a better life to come and that they will be the "chosen ones" when the world comes to an end.

most people i believe are at peace with the truth that life has an end. The some who are obsessed with the end of the world are more on the religious implication of such ending than any other.

Humans always worry about their future or what is coming next and if they know when and how the end of the world is going to happen then they will not live worrying about it.

People are obsessed with the end of the world because it gives them something to think about, comment and even cause some panic about. It´s just part of life. We live and die. I think we should just enjoy our present and stop obsessing about things that haven´t happened.

Or they resent the idea the world is going to go on without them when they die, so they want to be around to see it end to.

Logic does not seem to be evident in those questions, those obsessions. They are frightened because they are young and have not seen the things we older people have seen. "The day the earth stood still" for those of us old enough to remember was the day President Kennedy was killed. For others, it was Pearl Harbor. For young people, it seems that perhaps 9-11 was a harbinger of worse things to come.
I can't blame their fears; but I do blame their lack of logic on the non-rational philosophers and teachers who do nothing to ally their fears.

No. It's just common sense, if we had a beginning we shall have an end. All which goes up, must come down. Sooner or later.
