If the shop did not replace the belt when they did the idler-pulley replacement the belt may be the problem. When a pulley is defective and causes screeching, it is actually burning the surface of the belt. This sort of "polishes" the belt or makes it shiny and slippery. The results is that when the belt is under a load or the speed of the engine changes the belt slips and cannot keep up with the pulleys.
If a new belt does not cure the problem you still have a bad pulley somewhere. Serpentine belts are self-adjusting they should never slip.
If you are attempting to replace the belt yourself be very careful in routing it exactly the way it is supposed to be routed. There should be a diagram under the hood somewhere.

When you had the idler pulley replaced, did you replace the serpentine belt? If you did not, I would replace it. With the idler pulley going bad, it more than likely caused damage to the serpentine belt.
Does your car have air conditioning? If so, it could be the clutch going bad on your air conditioning unit. Even if you are not using your air conditioner right now, the clutch is always moving when the motor is running. I have seen the clutches go bad on an a/c unit and this will cause a loud, terrible squealing sound.
With the hood open, while the car is running, see if you can locate the origin of the sound. You may need someone to rev the engine while you locate the source of the squeal.

When mine start making noise I replace it. Easy to do at home. A little harder out on the road. If, the old one looks ½ decent, I keep it in the Truck as a backup later on.
If, you not sure it the belt or something else. What I do (Just stay away from moving parts). With the engine running, slowly pour a little water on the belt. If, it get quite it the belt. If, not, it something else. It will throw some water around, so, do not let it scare you. It really not take much, just a slow pour.

Its not that hard, make shure that you have a diagrame to look at so you know how to put it back on, if not draw one, before you take it off, some times thare is a squar hole in the tensioner arm, that would be fore a 1/2 inch drive rachet to take the tension off so you can slip the belt over the pulley or you may need a pry bar to do the same thing ,if the tensioner has good spring and keeps the belt tite and thare is no ruber torn or hanging out it should be fine not to change it, hope this helps, Doug

Serpentine belts can be damaged depending on how the pulley broke...they can stretch and such. Therefore, it probably would not hurt to change the belt. Check all you other belts while you are at it...good maintenance is the key to keeping the wheels on the road.

Yeh sound like you def need to replace the Serprntine Belt... and OR check and make sure all pully's SPIN freely... the "tensioner pully" should keep "tension on the belt... this should fix the hell bent screaching!

you might want to check the water pump if it is fine then yes replace the surpenyine belt once they fall off due to a part breaking they stretch.the only engine parts that squeel are waterpump power steering pump and surpentine belt.
