Back when I worked retail I kept a bowl of candy that I gave to kids, and parents of kids. As well as regulars. I also keep a bowl of candy at my desk for anyone to take.

of course, but candy is not my thing. to people asking for handouts I prefer to give food, so I carry snack bars in the car. Most take them, but there are some who prefer cash so they can get loaded. I will not enable this.

Only if I could and they asked for it otherwise you would be open for a lawsuit--cynical ain't it--but that is the world we live in.
Absolutely never to a child unless the parent were present.
The child might be diabetic without you knowing it.
