Actually you probably felt tired and in need of extra sleep because you were starting to get a cold or something similar.

It is almost impossible to oversleep. Your body wakes you up when you don't need to sleep any longer, and you'll just toss and turn and doze a little if you don't get up, but you won't really sleep deeply any more. Sleep when you feel the need -- listening to your body is usually a wise choice.

If you sleep extra due to physical fatigue, you are just giving your body what it needs to recover. I am a former marathon runner and have on several occasions after a race slept for 12 hours and felt great upon waking.
Our bodies do create Melatonin, a hormone that contributes to sleep, when we are deprived of light. This Melatonin does suppress your metabolism thus making your lethargic and drowsy. The natural production of Melatonin gets shut off when we are exposed to light in the morning but it does take awhile to clear it all from your system.
If you are sluggish in the morning, get outside for a short walk ( 30 Minutes) in natural light and see if it helps restore your natural energy levels.
If, on the other hand this is a regular problem, you might want to talk with your doctor as there may be an underlying medical condition like difficulty with your thyroid function, depression or other serious health condition.

Possibly, I am no expert, but I think that because you are in bed for so long (whilst not being sick), means that the body functions are not able to carry themselves out properly and therefore excess toxins maybe in the blood stream
