ok well my idea of indie style is:
skinny jeans
converse or flat leather boots
bold jewelry can be
so can retro style as looks as its with something more modern like the skinny jeans or just the way you wearing you hair
more ''styled'' hair, like bleach blonde or just nicely straightened.
Those beanie hats are too.
It can be bright-ish but not too much and make sure your not wearing too much black cos you don't want to go emo.

I think it looks best when it looks like its just been thrown together and your just naturally that stylish.

To me, indie style is being yourself, wearing what you like and not following trends or what everybody else is wearing... In other words, being independent.

Although, I survived high school being big and tall (now I'm just tall) and being in the figurative shadow of my sister who was (is) 5'6" and thin (I'm thin-ish now for my height, but she trains for and runs marathons; With a three month old daughter, working out seems like a luxurious dream). I didn't care what I wore and just put on clothes because I had to go to school.I also made the mistake of thinking that I could hide behind baggy clothes. (This was before clothing companies wised up and realized that not all teen girls are skinny.) Grunge was in style then, so I guess that "helped" my "look".

Seriously, though, if you have friends who love and support you for you, then try and do your own thing. What I needed in high school was the love of friends. Instead, I was the outcast. Eh. I'm happily married with a wonderful daughter and my sister and I are friends now.

Sorry for the rambling.

Indie is still to a degree influenced by indie brit rockers of the 90s a type of uniform really. Associated with how oasis dressed or blur. And even till now its how people dress individually in a mish mash of styles e.g at glastonbury. I guess you get the gist look at ebay and the types of clothes on offer. Floral prints and denim, retros bright colours, tshirts etc.

constantly 21 and Charlotte Russe are not "indie". i don't understand what modcloth is, yet Indie stands for "self reliant". The term: short for self reliant rock. in terms of music it could be self reliant of substantial labels/mainstream stuff. background: grew out from 60s storage, 70s punk, and 80s submit punk it began interior the mid 80s as option/college radio music. as quickly as nirvana hit super the alternative form cut up: the favored ingredient exchange into in basic terms option(Smashing Pumpkins, hollow, little doubt, etc.) and the different 0.5 that wasn't mainstream(by way of decision or not) became indie rock(Pavement, Sebadoh, built To Spill, etc). some bands have signed to substantial labels yet are nevertheless considered indie(Modest Mouse, etc.). bypass determine. Sound: interior the begining indie appeared like option(with the aid of fact it exchange into) in spite of the fact that it grew greater experimental and strange. In Britain indie has greater of a typical sound like Radiohead, Muse, etc. extremely than a definition in keeping with 'the scene.'
