I don't know the answer to this question.
But amazingly I have seen exactly that done by touring band that I'm into. It was a brown leather strap with silver metallic sharpie marker that had be re-applied over and over again in swirling-vine-like shapes with little stars here and there, also done by the sharpie. I thought it was kind of cool, self-expresion do-it-yourself homemade.
I mean so many products are just a product of the assembly line it was nice seeing a little personal flare.... If your ok getting a new guitar strap, or having metallic ink rubbed of it. I'd say for it, I'd like to know if it works.

Sharpie will rub off. Better to use something made for leather. I did a google search and found this

Looks like you dip it into leather die and apply. You would have to research silver die a little more but dye will last.

Yes it will work. Put an overcoat on top of it. It will work just fine.
Cova colors will crack off and peel on a guitar strap.
