This question has been answered here at least 1000 times. When you wrote it, Yahoo surely gave you a list of previous questions where you could check the answer.

Humans are one of the 5 great apes (along with gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees and bonobos) and all have a common ancestor. The other apes are not our ancestors. They are distant cousins.

when humans evolved, they formed a separate species from the other apes, its sorta like branching out of another species from the evolutionary tree.
