Yeah, the real estate market is doing great...
The logical thing to do is evict. So maybe they aren't as greedy as somebody said.

Just plain GREED Puddy! They were after as much as they could get for the minimum outlay and then it all went t*ts up! This is an Insurance scam and I really can't see why the media is making such a big deal of it. They have been caught and should be banged to rights not allowed to profit from books, press stories etc. John Stonehouse never got this much publicity when he did a "Reggie Perrin"
No-one is dead in this just a couple of cheap little crooks on the make. Don't let them profit by it.

Mr & Mrs Canoe man are going to get of relatively lightly I reckon. No more than 5 yrs in jail for him, and probably 2 for her & they will still have 200k in the bank, somewhere!

Trying to blame others for their actions .. typical ...
they were in debt and saw a way out and that was by him faking his own death so she would get the insurance money ..
Snide and underhand actions of two selfish people who cared for no one but themselves .. i feel sorry for their kids as they have had to put up with an elaborate lie and live most of their childhood without a dad
money is not everything

because they would have had tennancy agreements and no matter whether or not they fell behind with rent payments you cannot just chuck ppl out on the street you have to get a court order and it takes ages and costs loads of money. why do you think it takes so long and costs so much to get rid of squatters ??? unless they could sell the properties with sitting tennants then they had little choice. there are some nasty ppl out there who dont care if you go down just so long as they are ok.

Some people go into the business as landlords, to gain wealth without realizing that you should have an account as backup in case of problems such as late renters. That is a cause for an eviction especially if it's habitual.

They probably hoping for tax releif on debt because when you start renting out property the government expects you to pay tax on the income and expect that you are getting that income, so you have to later prove you did not. So really shouldn't you be down on those people who pay rent late or not at all who cause a burdon on the tax system.

I think having rental properties are more a headache then what they are all cracked up to be.
I was going to do buy one, but then saw what my cousin and brother in law goes through with getting payments.
Think of it this way.
Why would one rent when you can buy at probably the same price of rent?
Either they have poor credit, and can not qualify for a mortgage, or
they are always on the move from city to city.
