I know some say you shouldn`t drink any alcohol when pregnant how damaging it can be etc but what about all the people that do drink and have perfectly healthy babies?
I`m certainly not advocating drinking when pregnant but i don`t think having a rare glass of wine can do much harm.
I did when i was pregnant .
In fact in my first 2 weeks of pregnancy i was on holiday and drank rather a bit too much(i didn`t know at the time i was pregnant) i worried so much about it but my baby was absolutley fine.
Theres a difference between an odd glass and getting drunk and I certainly dont agree in making mums to be feel guilty for having the occasional glass of wine and you can all give me as many thumbs down as you like!!

Some experts say that 1 or 2 units of alcohol per week should not cause any harm, however they also say the only guaranteed safe amount of alcohol while pregnant is zero. The way I look at it is that it is only 9 months so it's not worth taking any risks so abstaining completely is the safest option. I also think that if I did have a glass of wine per week, my unborn baby gets the full effects of that, so what seems like a very small amount of alcohol to me is an awful lot for a tiny baby to cope with.
I read somewhere that if a pregnant woman has an alcoholic drink that perhaps makes her light headed, that is enough to knock the unborn baby out - not a nice thought. I also saw a program on TV where they did a series of ultrasounds on a pregnant woman who had 1/2 glasses of wine per week and on another pregnant woman who abstained from alcohol completelty while pregnant. The result were amazing if not scary. The baby of the woman who had 1/2 drinks per week had very sharp, sudden uneasy movements, while the baby of the woman who abstained from all alcohol was moving about gently and very relaxed. Definately food for thought I think! Even though I do miss it sometimes I know I'll be abstaining completely for the rest of my pregnancy, but I'll enjoy a nice glass of wine or two once baby is born.

I very rarely drink, while i cannot be classed as tee total i'm as close as i'll get, i may have half a glass of wine at christmas or a wedding to toast the couple but that's it. During pregnancy i cut out all alcohol, not even a whiff of the weakest wine going.
Doctors may say a small amount will not harm the baby but they also advise that it should still be avoided, generally they say it's ok to reasure the mum to be's that drank before realising they were pg. i'm not going to take any risk with my baby so all alcohol and other nastys are out!

I do but not that often. Mainly because i never liked alcohol to begin with so i just drink as much as i would have anyways. So far i have maybe had a 1/2 glass of wines in total. I just take a tiny sip here and there when my husband has a glass. ... i have also gone wine tasting. But once again, i am not a fan of alcohol so i dont consider the amount i have to be anything at any point in time , pregnant or not. I will probably end up having maybe 2 glasses in total throughout my pregnancy.

No I didn't have any. In my 8th month I decided, after everybody told me one little drink isn't bad, to try a glass of champagne, but I brely took 2 sips, because I felt so guilty and couldn't enjoy it. Also it gave me major heartburn, like everything at that time....
I decided then that drinking could wait until baby way there. I had a glass of beer every now and then - more 'then' than 'now' though, because I breastfeed and have to arange for alternative food sources for my baby whenever I want to have a drink (pumping in advance or formula) and as I feel guilty then again, I decided to only have a beer on very special occasions and wait until she is weaned with all the other alcoholic beverages....

I´m an alcoholic but the minute I found out that I was pregnant I stopped. Cold Turkey. If someone like me, who used to drink every day can do it u can too. Better safe than sorry. (My baby is fine, ´cause I stopped very early in my pregnancy and no plans of ever drinking again in my whole life). Good luck with your baby and congratulations!!!

I don't drink any alcohol at all now I'm pregnant - my midwife said that the advice varies from doctor to doctor; some say you can drink a little and some say you shouldn't drink at all, so I thought I'd rather be safe than sorry! It's no hardship for me though, as I didn't drink much before anyway.

When I was pregnant with my daughter we went on a holiday and visited a winery. I had a sip of 4 different wines. Not even a proper mouth full. And the occasional mouth full of my partners beer. About 6 mouth fulls over the 9 month period. I'm 20 weeks pregnant and the only alcohol I have had was half a glass of champagne last night to celebrate the birth of my nephew. Now nothing else for me until I have had my baby and finished breast feeding.

No I don't drink at all when I'm pregnant, I'm totally surprised that your doctor would give you the okay to drink anything during pregnancy.
I feel that any type of alcohol drank druing pregnancy can harm your unborn baby.

When you drink alcohol, it rapidly reaches your baby through your bloodstream and across the placenta. I have four grown children and I really only wanted to put good things into their bodies whilst I was pregnant, so for this reason I left alcohol alone for the duration. After all, nobody would dream of giving their newborn baby a couple of glasses of wine, or a couple of pints of lager each week!
