We were seen and not heard!! We got our butts spanked when we needed it (which wasn't often, we knew the consequences)! We played outside when there was company and didn't bother the adults! We all grew up to be good citizens and can't remember ever being told that I was loved but knew it by their actions!!! Now the word "I love you" is thrown around like a ball.....kinda takes the real meaning out of it!!!!!!! No, I wasn't strict with my kids and I do regret it!

once you have time, bypass over to the family individuals talk board and you'd be very much shocked on the questions (and the solutions). The family individuals unit would not exist now days. So unhappy. i won't be in a position to have faith using cellular telephones and etc. How does a family individuals pay for all those products. That on my own might desire to destroy a family individuals.

My parents were pretty strict but we also had a lot of fun. We have 6 kids, we were dirt poor too. We got spanked with a leather belt quite often. Even though I don't spank my children I also do not view my parents as having been abusive. We all grew up to be good kids. Grandkids are different, you don't usually have take the burden on of being their disciplinarian, that's your child's job. So therefore you get to be the fun, loving grandparent.

My parents were strict. We were strict with our children. I don't need to do anything strict with my grandchildren because their parents are doing a fine job. They are less strict than we were but they all attend church regularly and they are a close knit family involved in sports, travel, hiking, skiing and music. They believe that keeping your kids busy will keep them out of trouble.

I was extremely liberal raising my children--in fact my wife and I had many a heated discussions over that since she literally believed "spare the rod, spoil the child."
I NEVER spanked my children since I don't motivate nor am motivated by fear.
Afterwards, I was severely taken aback on how strict my daughter is with her children.
I don't know if I did the right thing--I certainly don't regret it--my children practically worship me in fact.

I was strict in many ways but not super strict with my 4, and have to say I am a pushover with the grandchildren, I leave all the chastising for them to their parents....and then I can be who I want to be..."their sweet Mamma"....lol

Of course I'm easier on my grandchildren. My job is to love them and enjoy them but I don't have the ultimate responsibility for their discipline. However, as a former teacher, I still have that "shape-up-your-act" attitude with them when I need to.

not a senior but have 2 grandchildren. I was stricter with my daughter but it is not my responsibility to discipline my grandchildren so they get away with more and I only spend a couple of days a week with them not 24/7

Yes I suppose I was quite strict when you compare it to todays kids, they get away with murder. I treat my Grandsons the same I am strict with them too. But they are always clammering to visit so I guess its not so bad laying down the ground rules after all.
