We (as individuals, not as human race) are here for some purpose that one is to find out. We are here due to a series of causes and effects and we are destined to live out our lives the way we fashion it.

A more purposeful or meaningful life is derived from reflection, knowing the common good, personal good, and committing to making the world a better place during your time here in whatever small ways possible.

Well Sara, if people knew that, would there be so much violence in the world.? So many unsatisfied souls, who need wars, to achieve there goals. I doubt very much that , war against ones own kind,, building such terrible weapons, spreading so much polluting was the purpose. I mean either way, we are just destroying our home and ourselves.

We were given a gift by god, to amuse him, that is my belief. I think even he didn't expect the human brain to do so much damage to his one and only home and family, who live, like him, on this planet.

Sara, as one "top contributor" to another let me ask you: what makes people think that our appearance on this planet had a purpose? And what prevents people who are living from seeing that the "purpose" of their own existence is up to them?

I don't understand why this question plagues people. i often lose sleep because of this questions and many like it. Does anyone have the answer or am i forced to question everything without guidance. These questions make the future seem foggy and bleak, almost like a sentience instead of an opportunity. Someone has to have some answers please!

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (noted 20th century mathematician, philosopher, Nobel Laureate and atheist)

So the answer to your question is either "to seek our Creator" or your question is meaningless. Natural processes such as evolution do not give purpose.

We are here for God's pleasure and for His purposes. Everything, absolutely everything finds its purpose in God.

The real reason? To reproduce. To carry on the species and to support the ecology and other species.

The philosophical reason? To love, to give, to grow and be beautiful. To discover, be proud and give to others. To become more knowledgeable, educate and entertain others.

To love one another.

To be honest - I prefer the latter.
