I read this in someone's profile, and I found this a very intriguing and interesting quote.

It is very good, but you cannot take it at face value. There has to be boundaries in society, so its probaably better to say have a good time rather than never take it seriously.

Haha, I wouldn't adopt that philosophy. At some time, we all have to grow up and learn that every action - has a reaction. We are all responsible for our own futures, and we are responsible for our neighbors (society). If I didn't take life seriously, I would do what I want, when I want.. but society doesn't work like that. I would have no college education, which requires discipline. It seems your argument is based on a perfectionist fallacy - that because life isn't perfect - we shouldn't bother. I know I'll die, and when I do, I want to know I accomplished, and grew.. and not just lived for primitive emotional gratification.

While it is true that we all die (surprise surprise) some things have to be taken seriously. If this is from Morrison he was dead by 30, so hardly a good example of how to live well.
Hedonism is good when we are young, but the mundane seriousness of life does need to be attended to. If we don't do it someone else will be doing it for us and they will just end up getting pissed off.

The sadness of a clown is that few considers fun & laughter to be a 'serious' thing. Children do it, & we love them all that much more for it. Too many people take the 'weighty' issues most seriously, Then cry about life being such a misery & burden. If you can teach a person to laugh, you are also teaching them how to love life. Seriously!
